Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine

Ivano-Frankivsk is a city located in the western part of Ukraine, serving as the administrative center of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. Historically known as Stanisławów, the city was founded in 1662 and named after Jan III Sobieski, the King of Poland. Following various territorial changes, it became part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the late 18th century, which significantly influenced its architectural style and cultural development. After World War I, the city was incorporated into the newly established West Ukrainian People's Republic and later fell under Polish rule, before finally becoming part of the Soviet Union after World War II. The city was renamed Ivano-Frankivsk in 1962 in honor of the Ukrainian writer Ivan Franko, who is celebrated for his contributions to Ukrainian literature and culture.
