Lagos, the largest city in Nigeria and one of the fastest-growing cities in the world, is located on the southwestern coast of the country along the Atlantic Ocean. Originally a small fishing village inhabited by the Awori people, Lagos gained prominence in the 19th century when it became a major center for trade and commerce, particularly during the transatlantic slave trade.
